Last Blog

1) Think about who you were in September and who you are now. What are some ways in which you have changed and grown over the course of the year? In the beginning of the year i was only 4'10" and now at the end of the year i am 5'0". In the beginning of the year i weighed 78 pounds and now at the end of the year i weigh 90 pounds. I think i have become more outgoing and just trying to have a great time in High School.

2) What was your least favorite topic of study this year in English class? Why did you dislike it? Animal Farm was the most boring book i have ever read. I did not care about reading it anymore half way through the book. I really could careless by animals owning and running there own farm.

3) What was your most challenging topic of study this year in English class? How did you rise to the occasion? Romeo and Juliet was the most challenging book to read cause there was a lot going on. The language was quit hard to understand but i got through it. It was a challenging book but i was proud of myself because i got through it and understood it at the end.

4) What was your most favorite topic of study this year in English class? What did it make you think about? My most favorite study this year was The Outsiders. The Outsiders was so much fun to read. I read it in 8th grade too, but it is just such a great book to read, and the movie is amazing as well.

5) If you could give the upcoming freshman class one piece of advice about freshman year, what would it be? I would have to say to definitely do sports. If they play sports in High School then there Freshman year will be so much better, and it will go a lot faster. I definitely enjoyed my freshman year and i really cant wait to come back next year and be a sophomore.

Under Age Drinking

1) Percentage Of Students Who Have Ever Used Alcohol

48% of the 8th graders have used alcohol.
73% of the 10th graders have used alcohol.
88% of the 12th graders have used alcohol.

Adult Arrests for Driving Under the Influence Of Influence

In 1996, 583 people were arrested.
In 1997, 572 people were arrested.
In 1998, 520 people were arrested.
In 1999, 495 people were arrested.
In 2000, 579 people were arrested.
In 2001, 605 people were arrested.
In 2002, 634 people were arrested.
In 2003, 659 people were arrested.
In 2004, 691 people were arrested.
In 2005, 736 people were arrested.
In 2006, 651 people were arrested.

2) What i have learned from the second table was that, as the years go on more people drink and drive and get arrested. I think Alcohol is getting more popular and people go to parties, bars and get drunk, but then they just drive home thinking it is fine, and they get arrested. Also there are many cops aware of this drinking and driving so they stop a lot of cars at night to see if they have been drinking.

3) I think one problem that teens drink before there 16, is because they try to act cool in front of there friends, or there friends pressure them into doing it. Another problem could be that, it depends on what your parent is like. Some parents are like no your not having a beer till your 21, and other parents are like ya go ahead you can have as much beer as you want. When my parents go to Weddings or some type of party, they always say OK ill let you drink at the party and i wont. So if my mom well say, gets drunk then my dad is sober and can drive home. So he would be the designated driver.

1.) I believe some children grow up fast and some don't. It all depends on what your childhood is all like. If you have fun, amusing, and caring parents, then you will have fun as a kid and you will grow up fast. If you have parents who are mean, addicted to drugs, and abusive then you will just not grow up fast. It is all in peoples minds when they think they are growing up fast.

2.) Gerald's life is way different then a High School student because Gerald takes on lots of responsibilities. Gerald still get harassed at home, and he should not be. Gerald has to take care of Angel his step-sister, all of the time because no one really cares about her accept for Gerald. By Gerald being harassed at home and all kinds of other stuff he is changing to be a mean person. When he grows up he might be a person who abuses kids and is mean. It is just how he was raised around people. I hope it would not be true but it is possible.

3.) Last year at Frankford Township Middle School, I stuck up for a kid who always got picked on. Everyday in the hallway he would get picked on by this John kid. The one day i walked into school and John was picking onto the kid. I told John to leave the kid alone because he has never done anything to him before. Then he kept on talking back to me, and i told him that he better stop picking on him or things are going to get bad between us. The rest of the year he never picked on the kid ever again.

Chapter 7 response

What Gerald is going through now is very tragety. I feel sorry for him because he has been going through a lot as a little kid. When his Aunt Queen died, he basically lost a mother because he had thought that she was his mom but really she wasnt. When my grandma died in about Agust of 2007 it was very hard for me. My grandma ment so much to me. I use to sleep over my grand parents house all the time, and go down the steps on our body pillows, and blankets. It was a lot of fun and like a little tradition. My grandma use to scream at my brother, my sisters, my cousins, and I all the time for riding down the steps. My grandma was not really healthy for about a year, then finally she gave up and she had a choice to keep fighting or for the doctors to pull the plug on her and she would die. She chose the doctors to pull the plug and i just remember her looking into my dads eye saying i love you so much and just let them pull the plug because i dont want to fight the pain anymore. I will never forget that and i will never forget my lovely, caring, hilarious grandma.

Question #1 (Animal Farm)

1. Describe how THREE of the propaganda techniques listed above apply to Animal Farm. Make your examples as specific as possible; please include chapter references.

My Answer: Plains folks is on of the propoganda names for this. The animals do support each other in alot of things. They all stick together and fight. Black and white thinking is one of them to. They always are against it or for something. They wanted to fight the people coming onto there farm and some agreed and some didnt. Transfer is one too. They made their own flag for the farm.

2.Choose TWO of the propaganda techniques listed above and give a real life example of each.

My answer: Name calling is one. It think everyone has swore before. Lots of people use bad words and its just a normal thing. Appeal to emotion is also one. Lots of people show there emotions by crying or being mad. Its a human thing. Lots of people cry sometimes and its just normal.
